NYPA Board Of Trustees Names New Chief Diversity, Equity And Inclusion Officer

The New York Power Authority Board of Trustees has named Nancy Harvey, Esq. as Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer to lead implementation of its aggressive new action plan to ignite and rejuvenate diversity, equity and inclusion at NYPA. First presented at NYPA’s July 28, 2020, board meeting, the aggressive plan to move the largest state public power organization in the nation forward toward a more diverse, equitable and inclusive workforce, will be led by Harvey and her team. She will present the board with a detailed plan for reaching measurable DE&I outcomes at NYPA’s December board meeting.

Dennis G. Trainor, NYPA trustee, and the board’s governance chair, said, “With Nancy’s leadership, we will build a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable workforce at NYPA and promote those same values in our communities; together building a better New York.”

Harvey was promoted from director of NYPA’s office of civil rights and inclusion to the newly created Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer position reporting directly to NYPA’s President and CEO Gil C. Quiniones and NYPA’s Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources and Administration Officer Kristine Pizzo.

“We are committed to walking the walk and talking the talk when it comes to racial justice and equality, diversity and inclusion and Nancy will ensure we prioritize these imperatives as an organization,” said Gil Quiniones, NYPA president and CEO. “We will hear, at every governance meeting, from our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion team, led by our newly appointed Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer, to ensure that we are making progress against our ten-point plan.”

In her new role, Harvey will be responsible for designing and implementing the overall equity, inclusion and diversity initiatives that align with NYPA’s overall business strategy. She will provide leadership and strategic direction in creating and supporting an environment at NYPA that is inclusive, respectful and free from discrimination, intolerance, harassment and retaliation.

Prior to joining NYPA in June 2014, Harvey worked as Senior Counsel and Ethics Officer for the state’s Battery Park City Authority. She also has held positions as Senior Counsel and Deputy EEO Officer for the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation. Harvey holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Public Accounting from the City of New York University, Baruch College. She received her Juris Doctor from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. Of Jamaican descent, Harvey lives in Westchester County with her husband, Paul, and their two boys.
